Photography has always been more than just a profession for me—it’s a journey of growth, discovery, and expression. What began as a passion for capturing portraits has evolved into a powerful medium for storytelling, advocacy, and creative exploration.
Embracing the Power of Documentary Photography
One of the defining moments in my career was the transition from taking portraits to documenting significant issues like climate change in Masalani Town, Garissa County. Through my lens, I’ve had the privilege of telling stories that matter—stories that highlight the urgent need to address climate change and shed light on mental health, aiming to break the stigma surrounding mental illness. These projects have deepened my appreciation for photography as a tool for social change, allowing me to capture not just images but also emotions, struggles, and hopes.
Learning and Growing Through Experience
Photography workshops have been essential in refining my technical skills. Each workshop has provided new insights and techniques that have helped me evolve as a professional photographer. The opportunity to travel has also been a significant part of my growth. My recent trip to Maasai Mara National Park is a testament to that. It’s a destination every photographer dreams of, and returning with fresh perspectives and experiences has been incredibly rewarding. The Maasai Mara’s breathtaking landscapes and diverse wildlife offered endless opportunities to push my creative boundaries.
Why I Love Photography
Photography allows me to combine technical precision with artistic expression. It’s a way for me to showcase how I see the world and how I want others to see it. Each photograph is a piece of my perspective, a slice of the world as I envision it. More than that, photography is my way of leaving a legacy—a collection of moments, emotions, and stories that I can pass on to my children and future generations. It’s everything I love wrapped into one, and I cherish the ability to capture moments that last a lifetime.
